1. Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra have signed an agreement for executing
the LENDI project.
It is a 276 crore medium irrigation project which involves the construction
of a dam, 30 km. from the A.P. border to impound 6.36 tmcft. of the Lendi
waters before joining the river Manjira ( a tributary of the river Godavari).
2. The Government has established an agency called Indian Computer Emergency
Response Team to deal with cyber crime.
3. India shall host the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010. India
shall be the second Asian country to host the multi-disciplinary games
after Malayasia which hosted the same in 1998.
4. China shall be hosting the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
5. The Archeological Survey of India has discovered an important Tamil
inscription dating back to the Chola king Rajadhiraja-I on the basement
wall of a temple in Ennayiram. A stone tablet with an Telugu inscription
assignable to the 18th Century has been found close to the above inscription.
6. `E-cops' - the e-computerised operation of the Police Services of the
Government of Andhra Pradesh has won the national award for the exemplary
e-governance initiative from the Central government. E-cops was launched
in Hyderabad in June 2002 and has been extended to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam
and Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.
7. The first ever Rural Olympics will be organised by the Federation of
Farmers Association of A.P. between November, 2003 and January, 2004.
The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh will also play an organisational
role.
8. The former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Sridath Ramphal has
been conferred the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize for peace, development and
disarmament for 2002 by the President of India.
9. India has been ranked 77 in a list of 133 countries that have been
indexed for e-governance.
10. The National Multi Commodities Exchange ( NMCE) has been given the
green signal to begin `futures trading' in wheat and rice in the back
drop of increasing production of wheat and rice.
11. The 30th National Women's `A' Chess Championship was won by Koneru
Humpy. Humpy defeated S. Vijayalakshmi former national champion. Humpy,
Vijayalakshmi, Nisha Mohota and Dronavalli Harika will be participating
in the Chess Olympiad in Spain in 2004.
12. India and Mauritius have signed an Extradition treaty. Alongwith the
above treaty agreements also were signed for economic partnership.
13. The University Grants Commission Act is to be amended soon. The purpose
would be to improve the administration of the Universities, regulate the
entry Foreign universities into India, confer greater autonomy to Individual
Institutions, review the working of `deemed to be' and Private Universities.
A National Institute of Science in would also be established in Chennai.
14. Mr. Madhavan Nair, Chairman ( ISRO ) has stated that India's Lunar
Mission - CHANDRAYAN - 1 shall be ready in four years.
15. The Kabul municipality and the Sulabh International Social Service
Organisation ( An Indian NGO ) have joined hands for constructing public
toilets with bio-gas plants for water heating and lighting.
16. India and Mauritius have signed agreements for economic cooperation.
Under this agreements a double taxation avoidance agreements has been
signed.
17. The Central Pollution Control Board has declared that the river Ganga
has the longest polluted stretch ( 1760 kms. polluted). Following the
river Ganga are the river TAPI ( 160 kms.), the river NARMADA (120 kms.),
the river INDUS ( 70 kms.), the river MAHI ( 70 kms.) and the river SABARMATI
(65 kms.).
18. Union Minister and Senior DMK leader Murasoli Maran expired in Chennai
due to multiple organ failure.
19. The Common Admission Test ( CAT) for the admission into the Indian
Institutes of Management (IIM's), was cancelled due to the leakage of
the question paper. Former Comptroller and Auditor General V.K. Shunglu
has been apointed to head a parallel enquiry along with the CBI into the
leakage of the question paper.
20. Shri C.P. Thakur, Union Minister and noted physician has been selected
for the Ranbaxy award 2002 for his work on Kala Azar.
21. The 6th International Abylimpics shall be held in New Delhi. 32 countries
will participate and the focus will be on the 'differently abled'.
22. Lakshya, the indigenously built Pilotless Target Aircraft ( PTA) was
test flown for the 3rd time from the interim test range at `Chandipur
- on - Sea' range.
23. India and Pakistan agreed to a Ceasefire on the 25th of November along
the line of control (LOC), the International Border (IB) and the Actual
Ground Position Line (AGPL). This is keeping in view the upcoming South
Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Islamabad.
24. The Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese Peoples' Political
Consultative Conference Jia Quinglin made a visit to Hyderabad on the
26th of November,2003.
25. 35 acres of forest land was destroyed in Kakkivani Malavaram. Kakkivani
Malavaram is a corridor between the Silent Valley National Park and the
Muthikulam reserve forest.
26. India has expressed desire to relaunch the failed W.T.O. talks at
Cancun and resolved the stalemate.
27. India has the first time achieved a share of 1% of the total US imports
in 2002 and improved its ranking from being the 22nd largest to the 19th
largest supplier to U.S.A.
28. India and Srilanka shall sign the comprehensive economic partnership
agreement with two other neighbouring countries to widen the scope trade
and commerce. It shall replace the existing Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
29. Veteran Australian Test Cricket Captain Steve Waugh shall retire from
International Cricket at the end of the coming series against India. He
shall replaced by Ricky Ponting.
30. The power plant at Vijayawada which generates 6MW of electricity by
the combustion of fuel derived from solid municipal wastes was synchronized
with the A.P. Transco Grid. It is the first of its kind in India.
31. Another Antarctic research station shall be established by India in
Antarctica at a cost of Rs. 15 crore. The station shall augment research
in the movement of the geological plate beneath the Indian sub-continent.
32. The Indo-EU Summit to begin on 28th of November is expected to give
a boost to bilateral trade. Trade flows worth 25 billion euros is expected
by the end of 2005.
33. `Village Information Kiosks and Disaster Management Systems' are to
be established by the ISRO to empower the rural populace. ISRO is also
working in collaboration with Anna University to develop a micro satellite
called ANUSAT.
34. A historic proposal was passed by Taiwanese law makers, giving the
President the power to call for an independence vote if the island is
threatened by a Chinese attack.
35. The sacred Olympic games flame for the Athens Olympics shall pass
through Delhi on the 10th of June. The motto is 'pass the flame, unite
the world'.
36. Andhra Pradesh has agreed to consider Tamil Nadu's request to release
Telugu Ganga Water from its balancing reservoirs at Kandaleru in Nellore
district.
37. China emerged as India's third largest trade partner with annual trade
between India and China reaching $ 5 billion in 2002.
38. The District Primary Education Programme in Andhra Pradesh has been
appreciated by the joint review mission of the Department of International
Development of the United Kingdom.
39. Drip Irrigation would be taken up in 2.5 lakh hectares in Andhra Pradesh
with an outlay of 1157 crores. This is the biggest of its kind in India.
40. The West Bengal Government has banned the autobiography of Tasleema
Nasrin - 'DWIKHANDITA', on the grounds that it could incite enmity between
different groups.
41. The group of 20 countries which had formed an alliance on agricultural
issues in the Cancun ministerial conference of W.T.O. will hold a meeting
in Brazil in mid December.
42. Former Foreign Minister of Srilanka Lakshman Kadhirgamar has been
nominated for the post of the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
43. The Asiatic Society, Mumbai is launching its year long bicentenery
celebrations from the 29th of November, 2003. It was formed 200 years
ago by 17 Englishman as the literary society of Bombay.
44. R.V. Reddy, consultant to the W.H.O., UNICEF and Commonwealth Secretariat
was awarded the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini award 2003 for outstanding
work as a special Director of the BIFR.
45. As a part of the Indo-Pak, Confidence Building Measures, Pakistan
president has agreed to provide both overflight and landing facilities
for Indian aircrafts.
46. Employment growth in A.P. has declined from 2.31% in the pre-reforms
period to 0.319 in the post reform period in the mid 1990s.
47. Ritwick Bhattacharya and Joshna Chinappa won the Senior National Squash
Championship in the men's and women's section respectively.
48. The United Nations is organising the World Summit on the Information
Society in Geneva. It is the first ever multilateral conference on harnessing
Information and Communication Technologies for development. Of the many
issues to be discussed, finances for bridging the digital divide and governance
/ administration of the Internet are on top of the Agenda.
49. India and Brazil have signed a defence deal focusing upon cooperation
in the aeronautical field, defence and shipbuilding.
50. The Vietnamese scientists have completed the restoration of two mummies
from the 17th century which depicts Buddhist monks in a mediation position.
These have been found in Dau Pagoda in Gia Phuc village, 25 km South of
Hanoi.
51. The Union Cabinet has decided to include some more castes and communities
in the central list of the Other Backward Classes from Andhra Pradesh.
Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Punjab and Sikkim.
52. The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting ( CHOGM) shall be held
at Abuja, Nigeria from December 4 to 7. India is the largest member and
fourth largest financial contributor to the Commonwealth. The most important
item on the Agenda is the consideration of a report by a high powered
committee on making democracy work for the "Pro-Poor development".
53. Eminent Artist and film director Bapu, whose work mirrors Telugu Culture,
was conferred the Vishisht Puraskar - 2002 by the Potti Sriramulu Telugu
University. His works include Sakshi, Pelli Postakam and Sita Kalyanam.
54. HSBC Asia - Pacific holdings limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of
HSBC has entered into an agreement to acquire a 14.71% equity in the UTI
bank limited.
55. The Geneva ( unofficial ) Award, like the road map to West Asian peace
envisages the creation of an independent state of Palestine coexisting
with Israel. The tenets of the Award are : 1. Complete withdrawal of Israel
from Palestinian Territories occupied at the end of the 1967 Arab - Israel
war. 2. Dismantling of Jewish Settlements in Palestinian lands. 3. Division
of Jerusalem into two capitals. 4. Israels right to decide upon the number
of Palestinians who can enter Israeli territory.
56. Nanofingers, or microscopic finger like structures made of titanium
Oxide may be carved out on the surface of ceramics and used for chemical
detection, toxic cleaning and trapping solar energy.
57. The Indian Army has organised operation Sangam in order to expose
children of Jammu and Kashmit to different parts of the country. It includes
a tour of INS Sindhuraj, a kilo class submarine and INS Virasat, the Aircraft
Carrier.
58. Shiela Dikshit ( Congress ), Vasundhara Raje ( BJP) and Uma Bharati
(BJP ) have emerged victorious in the Assembly elections in Delhi, Rajasthan
and Madhya Pradesh respectively. The BJP has emerged victorious in Chattisgarh
too.
59. Russia is yet to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. Initiated by Japan in
1997, the Kyoto Protocol urges countries to reduce emissions linked with
global warming. The term of the treaty extends upto 2012.
60. The SAARC Summit for the year 2004 shall be held in January in Islamabad
in which India shall participate.
61. The Eastern Naval Command celebrated the Navy Day on December 4th.
It was on this day in 1971, that the Missile Boats of Indian Navy bombarded
the Karachi harbour and Pakistani ships paving the way for an Indian victory.
62. Sergeant Udai Singh was killed while serving with the US Forces in
Iraq. He is the first Indian casualty in the Iraqi war.
